WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are curious about issues
linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who went
through back surgery, they found
that 18% were smokers. The researchers observed that contrasted
with the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male,
nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who have coronary artery disease were more apt to be
smokers. Smokers who had lumbar spine back surgery presented
initially more with leg pain than
back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education
status were also related to smoking status. Interestingly
though, smoking status didn’t influence the
disability status at a year after back surgery. (1) Altering
such risk factors work equally well for smokers and nonsmokers
luckily. The Chiropractic TRUhealthDR would encourage a Colorado Springs
smoker dealing with Colorado Springs back pain to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body knows what’s good for it…and what’s not. Smoking isn’t. Examining 2307
smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is most
strongly associated with spine pain. Headache,
trunk pain and limb pain followed. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head bear
the brunt of the painful effect though. If a smoker
does not like pain, you’ll want to consider stop smoking! (2) The Chiropractic TRUhealthDR is with you to support
your attempt to stop smoking when you’re
ready.
